MEANING OF KOSHER
Kosher is a Jewish dietary law that was developed over 3,000 years ago. The word kosher comes from the Hebrew word kosher, which means “to separate.” The process of koshering is said to have originated from the Biblical practice of separating the pure from the impure and then boiling a pot to make the impure water fit for consumption. Today the separation is to be done by a rabbi and is done by checking whether or not the food will not cause a person to become ritually impure. Kosher laws also dictate how food is stored, cooked, and served in a very specific way. This includes what utensils are used and how the food is prepared. Kosher is also known for having a multitude of laws that dictate what is and what is not allowed in terms of consumption and health. Kosher foods are typically not cooked in any way with anything that comes from an animal or that is not certified kosher.
